New Zealand Winegrowers has appointed Chris Stroud to head up its European operations.
Stroud, who has worked with NZWG for the past 18 months, will take up the role of marketing manager for Europe, acting as an ambassador for the country’s wines and figurehead for the media.
Back in July, David Cox, then European director for NZWG, stepped down from his position after three years in the role, saying he planned to pursue other opportunities.
Stroud has 15 years experience in the wine trade, having spent nine years at Treasury Wine Estates in a variety of marketing roles, which offered experience across Europe working on several high profile PR and event activities and enabled him to develop strong media links. He also spent a year working in the New Zealand wine industry in 1999/2000.
This role will see Stroud become the main point of contact for all key influencers in Europe, driving NZWG’s seminar and education programme, visit programme and keeping New Zealand wineries up-to-date on the market.
He will also work with New Zealand Trade and Enterprise to drive a joint programme to develop New Zealand wine in Germany, Sweden and the Netherlands.

Stroud said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for me and I am very excited about the challenges that lie ahead. I have always been a keen and passionate supporter of New Zealand wines. I am looking forward to help build the New Zealand wine brand in Northern Europe and to maintain the highly regarded position its wines have in the UK and Ireland.”
