Premium Ribero del Duero producer Protos has secured its first UK-wide distribution agreement with PLB.

Protos' full portfolio of wine, including Protos Joven Roble, a Tempranillo aged in American oak, will be available to independent merchants and the on-trade through PLB's specialist division.

Protos was the first supplier to market a wine named after the Ribero del Duero region when it was established in 1927 - over fifty years before Ribero del Duero was officially classified in 1982.

The company owns 180 hectares of vineyards and has access to a further 800 hectares via long-term contracts.

"PLB is well-known for its strong portfolio of Spanish wines. We felt we had space for a strong brand from Ribera del Duero, and are confident that Protos fills this: they make a wide portfolio of wines with the heritage and prestige that we know our customers are looking for," said PLB's Iberia buyer Jaime Delage.
