Diageo is encouraging bartenders to add their own botanicals to its Tanqueray No Ten gin brand in order to create a unique infusion to serve with tonic.

The Tanqueray No. Ten Infused Tea and Tonic initiative saw bartenders experiment with 48 different botanicals including lavender, rose and eucalyptus at Diageo's laboratory in Woodside, Bishops Stortford. The idea is the botanicals are infused with the gin in a teapot and then strained over ice to serve.

Seasonal suggestions include strawberry and elderflower during Wimbledon and cinnamon and nutmeg at Christmas.

The company has also appointed Melina Ioannou to the role of brand ambassador. Ioannou is to push the new serve among bartenders.

Barrie Wilson, Tanqueray global ambassador, said: "We wanted to offer something new and innovative to continue to keep bartenders engaged with the brand, who in turn can create their own unique blend for their customers. We have given bartenders direct access to a large amount of botanicals to create their own blends."
