New staff to join the publication team

Lisa Barnard, publisher, and Marijke Taylor, associate editor, leave Harpers at the end of September. Barnard, who joined Harpers four years ago to help relaunch it, is to become managing director of the Illustrated London News Group, part of Sea Containers, which publishes about 20 magazine titles in the travel, hotels and luxury goods areas. She takes up the position in November and hopes to expand the wine side of the group. After a mere 26 years with Harpers, Taylor is emigrating back to Australia, with her lawyer husband Anthony Price, to take up new challenges, but will be back in London occasionally to see family and friends. Meanwhile Tim Atkin started as editor of Harpers this week, supported by Christian Davis as deputy editor. Anthea Bain has joined the team as editor of Harpers on Retail, having previously edited Tax-Free Trader and Retail Equipment and Design (RED). Pat Straker continues as editorial director. A journalist is being recruited to replace Taylor, and Barnard's responsibilities will be split between Charlotte Hey, associate publisher, who takes on the development of the IWSC, Alan Chalmers, managing director, and another appointment on the publishing side, to be recruited.
