ITALY: The country?s 2007 wine production is expected to be one of the lowest in 50 years, totalling some 43.2 million hectolitres - 13% down on last year, experts said.

The Association of Italian Oenologists (Assoenologi) said exceptionally warm weather last winter as well as in April, July and August had ripened the grapes up to three weeks earlier than usual, especially in the south.

The weather was wetter in the north, and Assoenologi predicted that quality would be mixed, while wholesale prices would rise by between 5 and 20%.

Seems an accurate prediction we'll have to see if our own harvest(Tuscany) measures up to the prediction or if we'll have some better luck. Either way it looks like we have at least the ripeness to produce a good final product.
