English winemakers will scoop a total of 19 medals at this year's Decanter World Wine Awards.
Wines from nine English vineyards are set to take home two silver medals, five bronze and received 12 commendations at this year's awards ceremony, which will take place on September 1. This year some 9219 wines from around the world were entered into the competition. Christelle Guibert, Decanter's tasting director said: "It is always delightful to showcase English wines and demonstrate that they can hold their own in the most influential wine competition in the world. "The overall standard of global entries was higher than ever this year so it is a great achievement that nine English vineyards made it on to the medals table." Adds chairman of the Awards, Steven Spurrier: "Winning a medal in the Decanter World Wine Awards is a sign of an outstanding wine." This year's judging panel was made up of more than 50 judges from around the world. For the full list of this year's winners visit the Decanter website.
