Credit crunch... what credit crunch?

Can a bottle of whisky really be worth £2,500? I have to say I was staggered by the news that Bowmore Distillery is releasing a limited edition bottle that will retail for that much.

I'm not much of a whisky drinker (wine is my tipple) so I'm happy to be educated on this one - but what precisely can you expect from a £2,500 bottle of whisky that you wouldn't get from something more reasonably priced? (And I have to say, even Diageo's new special edition Johnnie Walker at £420 a bottle sounds like something out of the bargain bin compared to this).

Come on all you whisky connoisseurs out there... enlighten me please!
