Fortune Brands announces new chairman

Distiller Fortune Brands has annouced that chief executive Bruce Carbonari will take over as chairman from Norm Wesley when he retires tomorrow.

Carbonari, who has also previously acted as company president and chief operating officer for the company, took over the CEO post from Wesley in January. The company said Carbonari's promotion to chairman completes the transition that began when he became CEO.

Wesley will remain a member of the board of Fortune Brands. Wesley first joined the company in 1987 and became chairman in 1999.
