The Co-op Group has announced the appointment of two new buyers to its wine team.

Ben Cahill (left) joins as category wine buyer with responsibility for Alsace, Burgundy, Rhône, South of France, Spain, Central and South America. Edward Robinson (right) joins the team as junior buyer, where he will be responsible for buying German wines.

Cahill previously worked at Manchester-based wine merchant Carringtons, specialising in wines from France, and later Vins Sans Frontieres in Nice. Most recently he worked as a wine buyer for UK gift wine specialist Lords Wines.

Robinson joins from Majestic Wine, where he worked partly at its French subsidiary, Wine and Beer World.

Kay Wheelton, head of trading for beverages at The Co-op Group, said: "I am delighted to welcome Ben and Edward to the wine team and to The Co-operative Group. Their combined experience in the wine industry will help to grow our exciting and award-winning range of wines, and keep The Co-operative at the forefront of innovation in the sector."
