Maxxium is launching an on and off-trade campaign to boost sales of its Famous Grouse whisky brand in the run up to St Andrew's Day.

The distributor is providing bars and stores across Scotland with St Andrew's Day promotional kits in the run up to the day, taking place on November 30. It is also offering a free gift incentive across the trade, to encourage Scots to celebrate the day itself by drinking Famous Grouse.

The company says that research it commissioned suggests Scots want the national day to become a more celebrated date on the calendar.

The research suggests that eight out of 10 Scots feel St Andrew's Day is a good opportunity to showcase and celebrate the country's traditions, development and vitality, and suggests that Scots want to make St Andrew's Day as famous as Ireland's world-famous St Patrick's Day.

Gerry O'Donnell, director for The Famous Grouse said: "We urge Scots around the globe to get behind St Andrew's Day and make this celebration as important a date on the calendar as St Patrick's Day has become."
