UK distributor Paragon Vintners has re-established an Australian representation in its portfolio by winning the full UK distribution for South Australian winery Jip Jip Rocks. The deal follows the departure last month of Tyrell's Wines from the Paragon stable; a move that left it temporarily without any Australian representation. There are three ranges in the Jip Jip range; Jip Jip Rocks for the on-trade, Mount Monster for the multiple off-trade and Morambro Creek, which will be made available to all trade categories. Paragon's marketing director, Elizabeth Wilson, said: "Jip Jip Rocks is a perfect fit for us as it offers different labels that can work across the trade. We were attracted by the fact that Jip Jip Rocks is a family business, and is run by the three brothers. "Their forward thinking attitude to developing this market matches ours. The quality of the wines are exceptional, and a key ingredient too is the fact that Ben Riggs is the winemaker." Riggs made his name producing iconic wines such as the RSW Shiraz and Angelus. It has been a turbulent few months for Paragon - its co-founders Anthony Dee and Peter Williamson resigned in the spring over concerns about the company's direction under new parent company, CL World Brands. Champagne house Canard-Duchêne left the Paragon stable shortly afterwards, to be replaced by a deal with Champagne Jacquart. In August, the company announced a major restructure as part of a drive to return the company to profitability after four years of losses. It appointed Elizabeth Wilson, HBJ's buying director, to the new role of marketing director and recruited two new brand managers to handle the New World and Europe. It has also just announced the appointment of Alison Marley as brand manager for European wines. Marley will look after Champagne Jacquart, Trimbach, Quinta do Noval and the French wine portfolio, working alongside Prue Hill who recently joined Paragon Vintners as brand manager for New World wines. Paragon recently said it is looking to add more brands to its portfolio from Italy, Spain, Argentina and California. Related Articles
