Continued growth in premium categories of Cognac in China helped Remy Cointreau post a 0.9% increase in turnover on its own brands in the nine months to Dec 31.

Cognac sales were ahead by 4.2%, with Germany and France also showing growth.

The Russian market suffered form reductions in stocks held by wholesalers because of a lack of cash, and there was general sales slowdown in the US.

Remy Cointreau's turnover including partner brands fell 1% to Euros 604.5 million.

The group said Champagne had performed "satisfactorily given the current state of the international market", with Germany and the UK among the better performing markets.

Cointreau did well in France but saw a continued slowdown in sales in the US and Japan.

Metaxa, Passoa and Mount Gay all grew in their main markets.
