Wine Relief was boosted by £150,000 this year with a charity dinner, auction, wine sales and sponsored diet.

Berry Brothers & Rudd's Big Red Nose Dinner with Chateau Latour and Jancis Robinson MW raised £23,500. The auction, also held in the cellars beneath Berrys’ London shop, saw 15 imperials of top Bordeaux wines from the 2005 vintage raise £37,500 and another five lots made an additional £65,000.

A further £6,000 was raised from the sales of Berrys’ best selling wine Good Ordinary Claret in the six weeks before Red Nose Day and £17,000 from a sponsored diet undertaken by 16 Berrys’ staff.

Robinson, who launched Wine Relief in 1999 with husband Nick Lander, said: "The actual total raised for Wine Relief has already reached the record amount of £880,000 and is still rising - thanks to an amazing effort from many, many people throughout the wine trade, not least the major retailers.

"The trade can feel truly proud of itself for the impact its efforts will have on the lives of thousands and thousands of people in Africa and the UK."

Wine Relief, which was launched in 1999 by Robinson and her husband Nick Lander, has since raised over £3.5 million.

The £150,000 you mention was raised in a single night from a single (wonderful) event at Berry Bros but this was just a small part of the total.
