The Sauza tequila distillery has been recognised for its commitment to social responsibility issues.

The award has been made by the Mexican Philanthropy Center and the Social Responsibility Alliance.

The award specifically recognises the distillery's educational and environmental accomplishments in the areas of quality of life, business ethics, community efforts and environmental preservation.

Servando Calderon, Sauza's director general of operations, said: "It is important to us to improve the communities in which we live and work while improving our employees' quality of life.

"This award attests to the need for improved education in under-privileged communities and environment initiatives like our wastewater treatment plant that ensures the safety of our water."

Sauza is owned by Beam Global.
