Brand Phoenix has appointed the Irish arm of Pink Elephant wine firm 10 International to handle sales of its First Cape brand in the country.

The South African brand has become a major player in the branded UK wine market in recent years and is one of the official sponsors of the British & Irish Lions rugby union team's tour of South Africa this summer.

Brand Phoenix director Greg Wilkins said: "We are extremely pleased to be working with the team from 10 International Ireland and their expertise in this market will be essential in establishing our brand as the leading South African wine there."

Jim O'Sullivan, managing director of 10 International Ireland, said: "This is a key addition to our portfolio and will allow us to offer a range of wines that includes a mix of leading brands and our own exclusive labels."

British-based 10 International set up its Irish offshoot earlier this year.
