Winegrowers of Ara, the premium Marlborough producer, has appointed Julie Williams to the newly created position of business development manager for the UK and mainland Europe.

Williams will be responsible for running the UK operation, and working closely with UK distributor DGB.

She was previously at Peter Lehmann UK where she spent four years as national accounts manager.

She has also worked with Champagne Lanson, Robert Mondavi Europe and Matthew Clark.

Commercial director Sue Henderson said: "The UK market is an extremely competitive one, so finding someone with a real depth of experience is key to being able to generate growth for the Ara brand. Julie fits the bill perfectly."

Established in 2001, Winegrowers of Ara has a 1,600 hectare river terrace vineyard at Ara at the confluence of Marlborough's Wairau and Waihopai rivers.
