Three of the trade's leading figures revealed which countries they were tipping for future success at today's Harpers Wine & Spirit debate at the LIWF.
Simon Baile, owner of Oddbins, believed Hungary and Croatia had massive potential - speaking of their "fantastic wines and great diversity".
Matt Dickinson, commercial director of Thierry's agency, said: "I would also point out eastern Europe. Spain also represents fantastic value, as well as odd corners of France such as the south west which can also do good volumes. Argentina in my view has great unfulfilled potential for the UK market."
Neil Bruce, wine category director at WaverleyTBS which does 85% of its business in the on-trade, was a big fan of South Africa. "The big issue for us is the euro exchange rate with the pound. The currency in South Africa is better, and consumers are really starting to get that it provides wine somewhere between Old and New World in style. Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz in particular are cracking value."
