Oddbins kicks off playful Christmas campaign

Published:  11 November, 2013

High street retailer Oddbins' playful festive campaign features a takeover of its Twitter account by 'Mother Christmas' giving away free Champagne and in-store magic shows.

The 34-strong chain put posters up in stores last week saying Christmas had been cancelled after Santa Claus had an accident, only to be rescued by Mother Christmas, who has partnered with the store.

A Christmas manifesto will be displayed in the window of Oddbins stores between now and the end of December. The Mother Christmas character will take over Oddbins' Twitter account and give away bottles of Champagne every day to over 18s.

Christmas is back on!

Magician Tariq Knight will also make a series of magic videos for the retailer, the first of which is online now. Knight will also be performing tricks in Oddbins shops across the country.

Since the brand relaunched in 2011, after the original firm went into administration and was acquired by Raj Chatha's European Food Brokers (EFB) Group, it has been keen to inject more fun into the brand and get its customers involved. This has led to campaigns such the Palate, a competition to find the UK's best amateur wine taster, and the Listing, an opportunity for customers to suggest wines they've fallen for on their travels to become part of the Oddbins range. Customers have also matched music to wine matches and chosen the price they would be willing to pay for wines.

Christmas is cancelled!
