Oddbins is giving customers the chance to let them know the name of a favourite wine they drank whilst on holiday as part of its new revamped Oddbins.com website.

A new feature of the site, “The Listing”, will allow customers to register and recommend wines they enjoyed on holiday.

The Oddbins wine buying team will then source a sample of the wine and if they like it buy it to sell on its website and in its 34 branches nationwide.

The new initiative follows a shopper survey which revealed 84% of its customers had become smitten by a wine while on holiday and would love to be able to buy it once back at home.

Ayo Akintola, Oddbins managing director, said: “Almost every day someone walks into a wine shop to see whether they can buy a wine they enjoyed on holiday. Almost always the answer is a ‘sorry, no but we have this instead’. At Oddbins we believe that wine retailers have stuck to the prevailing wisdom that holiday wines ‘don’t travel well’ and have been ignoring these requests for long enough. So we are doing something about it and what’s more, if we do list the wine, we are going to be paying our customers for every bottle sold.”

“Our customers have told us that Corsica and Croatia are where they are headed this year so we are looking forward to seeing what they discover.”

He added: “With the holiday season about to kick off in earnest and our new website just launched, this is the perfect time to be able to say to our customers: ‘enjoy your holidays and let us help you enjoy yourself once you are back’.”

The new-look website also offers a dedicated wine and food matching section, a same day delivery service and has been customised so that users can buy wine from the site whether they are using a computer, a tablet or a smartphone.

The site will also feature a large number of wines that have been recommended by consumers – along with their tasting notes.
Users are not tied in to buying a case of wine and can buy a single bottle if they like.

The first 200 customers who registered on the site’s launch on July 11 will receive £20 worth of web credits to redeem against future orders.
The site also includes “Acts of Random Wineness” vouchers hidden throughout the site which entitle the customer to £10 off a future purchase when uncovered.

Olivia Hoggard, e-commerce manager for Oddbins said: “As you would expect from Oddbins, we have gone out of our way to make our online experience as fun, accessible and unstuffy as possible for everyone – regardless of their knowledge of wine and to help them explore different and exciting wines”.
