UK drinks importer PLB, has become distributor of South African premium Fairtrade producer Bosman Family Vineyards, as it continues to drive to reposition itself in the fine wine arena.

Distribution via PLB will take place from January 1, and the focus for the UK will be on two key ranges for independents and the on-trade with the premium Fairtrade 'De Bos' range (rrp £10) and the Special Vineyard Selection (rrp £20).

Bosman is a multi-ownership agricultural organisation, where the farmworkers own equity in the business. The family-run winery spans eight generations of winemaking history and claims to be very hands on, from winemaking and vine research through to sales and marketing.

From rootstock to bottled product, the entire production process at Bosman is Fairtrade accredited. Based in Wellington, the wine producer also has vineyards near Hermon, towards the Swartland area and in the Hemel and Aarde Valley, in the Walker Bay region.

Bosman is also home to one of the largest vine-propagating nurseries in the country. Lelienfontein Vine Growersgives gives access to a number of experimental grape varieties that are not usually found in South Africa and is an important supplier of root stocks and vines to some of South Africa's most renowned wineries.  Its vine garden in Walker Bay is home to around 20 hectares of experimental plantings of more than 50 cultivars and clones, with future research and development projects such as  customer flavour profiling.

PLB's sales director, John Osborne, said:  "Our business model is constantly evolving and one of the key changes over the last few years has been the repositioning of PLB as a fine wine merchant - and with that some exciting new additions to our portfolio for this sector.  With premium wine credentials, a totally driven approach and a long term family business background like PLB, Bosman are the perfect fit and we look forward to developing their business in the UK."

Bosman managing director Petrus Bosman, said: "I am thrilled that we will be aligning ourselves with associates that share the same vision and have the same sense of 'family'.  I look forward to this new chapter in our family story and to our relationship with PLB."

The wines will be available for tasting at PLB's Regional Roadshows taking place in 2014:  Edinburgh, March 4, Manchester, March 5 and London, March 6.
