With the latest Nielsen figures showing a 49% uplift in volume sales of Chilean wine over £9, there's never been a better time to get behind the country's top-end wines.

Premium Chile will be in the spotlight today at Harpers' second Chile Summit, taking place at No 11 Cavendish Square in London.

Delegates will hear from Nielsen about the increase in sales of wines above the entry-level offering, with volume sales of brands over £7 per bottle growing 24% year on year. The appetite for more expensive Chilean wines is "clearly there and something to exploit in the future", according to Nielsen's Helen Stares.

CGA Strategy will also be revealing how Chile is performing in the on-trade and what threats the category faces.

The main converts versus cynics debate will give Chile advocates the chance to speak out about why they champion the category and why others should be doing the same.

Masterclass hosts Christine Parkinson, Raul Diaz and Jo Ahearne MW, will join Christopher Piper, Johnny Bingham, Angus Macnab, Xavier Rousset MS, Iain Muggoch, Hamish Anderson and Andrew Bewes, among others, to debate the opportunities, challenges and future of the Chilean wine category.

In the cynic camp will be those in the trade who under-represent Chile on their lists and want to raise their criticisms with producers in an open forum.

A full write up of the event, including analysis of the trade debate, a focus on the series of expert-led masterclasses, and exclusive figures from CGA and Nielsen, will appear in the December 7 issue of Harpers.
