Red Squirrel opens pop-up Christmas wine bar in Dalston

Published:  12 November, 2015

West London-based wine importer Red Squirrel Wine is to launch its first pop-up wine bar through the Christmas season.

The wine bar, named Nutkin & Co, will be open for four weeks from November 20 at independent coffee shop Curio Cabal in Dalston, East London.

It will offer customers a rotating selection of wines from Red Squirrel's portfolio, both by the bottle and by the glass.

Craft beers, ciders and perries from around the world will also be available.

Visitors to Nutkin & Co will be able to sample plates of charcuterie and cheeses.

Several supper clubs are also planned, including a two-day residency from Emily Scott, chef and owner of the St Tudy Inn in Cornwall, on December 1 and 2.

Scott will be serving a tasting menu of fresh Cornish produce paired with a flight of Red Squirrel Wines.

Nik Darlington, founder of Red Squirrel Wine, said: "Something like this has been on our radar for a while and we finally found an ideal partner in Curio Cabal. It's a superb location, merely yards from Haggerston station, and we're surrounded by such a vibrant neighbourhood of food and drink businesses.

Nutkin & Co

"The notion behind Nutkin & Co is twofold. Above all it's about having a massive amount of fun, pushing ourselves to the limit to try something new and create a vibrant, cosy space for the public to enjoy and learn about some of the most unusual wines and rarest grapes available in the UK today.

"But also Red Squirrel is first and foremost a supplier to the on-trade and independent off-trade and we wanted to create what is effectively a month-long portfolio event, with regular events and offers for the London wine trade."

Red Squirrel was founded in 2012. Its current list has over 100 wines from more than 30 producers, with a focus on rare grape varieties worldwide.

Nutkin & Co will be open from 6.00 pm six nights a week. It will be closed on Mondays.

There will be a launch party on November 20 from 7.00 pm. Glasses of sparkling wine will be free for the first hour, and there will be 25% off bottles of wine all evening.

Curio Cabal is located at 258 Kingsland Road, London E8 4DG.
