Second Emerging Regions Tasting kicks off the 'Tasting Season'

Published:  04 September, 2014

Yesterday over 300 buyers, distributors and several generic bodies came together at the second annual Emerging Regions Tasting in London, which kick starts the traditional wine trade's 'tasting season'.

More than 20 countries were represented at the Emerging Regions Tasting, which is organised by Harpers, and attracted buyers from the major multiples, specialist retailers and a host of independents from the on and off-trades.

Madeline Waters from CO.CO PR, who was working with Wines of Lebanon said: "There was a really good buzz.  Lebanon was very popular. There were some good distributors and buyers.  I was impressed with the quality of the buyers and how busy it was. We saw quite a lot of people from the off-trade and its encouraging to know people are still really keen to find wines coming out of new regions."

Leading wine consultant, Mike Paul, who was working with the Yakata Group, a group of producers from Bulgaria looking for UK distiributors, said: "I really like focus.  People won't be surprised to discover new things at this tasting. It does what it says on the tin.  This tasting also seems to provide exhibitors with a lot more feedback on their wines as well.  There are more conversations being had, which is great."

"The size of the tasting was great, from a tasting and exhibiting point of view.  You could more than scratch the surface of those showing their wines.  If people were trying to find something a bit different then it delivered. The quality of the visitors was also really good," said Katharine O'Callaghan, owner and director of Callaghan Communications who was working with Vino Nostro.

The day also featured sold out masterclasses on Lebanese and Brazilian wines.

The Emerging Regions Tasting is an opportunity for new wine regions in mature markets, as well as new wine producing regions trying to enter the UK market to showcase their wines. If you would like to take part in the 2015 tasting then please contact kate.labate@wrbm.com
