Waitrose appoints Direct Wines buyer Cat Lomax
Waitrose has recruited Cat Lomax from Direct Wines to join its buying team.
In her new role, Lomax will be responsible for sourcing Waitrose wines from Bordeaux, Alsace, Rhône, Germany, Austria and the US, the high-end supermarket chain said.
Lomax has been on the buying team at Direct Wines since 2009. Waitrose’s move is something of a coup, with the highly rated young buyer having previously won the Derouet Jameson scholarship for outstanding academic achievement in her WSET Diploma.
Waitrose wine buying manager Ken Mackay MW said: “As well as clear commercial skill and an enormous passion for wine, Cat is incredibly personable and I’m very sure that she will not only be a great asset to our team, but also a pleasure for us all to work with over the coming years.”
Lomax intends to begin her MW studies next year.
Separately, Waitrose has also this week secured a deal to supply catering to Eurostar buffet carriages.
