Wine videos celebrate 20 years of South African democracy

Published:  05 February, 2014

Wines of South Africa has launched the first in a series of short films on how the changing wine industry has affected the people working in it.

The videos coincide with the 20th anniversary of democracy in South Africa and tell the human story behind the wines.

Video:

The Democracy Series 1

The first video went live on February 4, and new content will be uploaded weekly to the WoSA website. In this short film student Andisiwe Ketsiwe tells her story of how the Pinotage Academy for disadvantaged young people has changed her life for the better.

Each film tells the story of an individual who has seized the opportunity to improve their lives for themselves and their families. Each one is two and a half to three minutes long and ends with a quote from the late Nelson Mandela, South Africa's first democratically elected president, who came to power in 1994.

The videos will be used by WoSA at international wine shows throughout the year and will appear on the generic body's country specific websites, directed at both consumers and trade. They are also available for producers, importers, media and retailers to use, in order to communicate about South African wines in this historical year.

Andre Morgenthal, communications manager at WoSA, said: "The Democracy Series gives expression at a human level to the impact of many transformation initiatives occurring throughout the wine industry. These range from black economic empowerment ventures to bursary and training programmes, as well as to various eco and social sustainability projects."
