Solera 7 - the premium solera-aged rum from Matusalem - is now available in the UK for the first time via newly-appointed agent PLB.
Sold in 15 other European markets, Matusalem Solera 7 will now be distributed to the UK On-Trade alongside the super-premium Gran Reserva Solera 15, as well as the Clásico and Platino.
The Matusalem rums are produced and bottled exclusively in the Dominican Republic using techniques dating back to 1872, when the Alvarez brothers set up a distillery in Santiago de Cuba and introduced the solera ageing process they knew from their Spanish homeland. The brand name is Spanish for Methuselah - the Old Testament patriarch said to have lived for 969 years - and is a reference to this ageing method.
"We are very excited to be bringing Solera 7 - which accounts for 40% of Matusalem's sales in Southern Europe - to the increasingly rum-aware UK market," comments Brand Manager Adam Wyartt. "As well as having the smooth golden rum style you would expect from Matusalem, the blending process used for Solera 7 imparts elements of Caribbean spice and fruit which carry through cocktails and mixed drinks and also make for a genuinely complex sipping rum."
PLB began importing wines 26 years ago and has grown to become one of the UK's largest suppliers of wines, beers and - now - spirits to the trade. With a producer base that covers Europe, the Americas, Australasia and South Africa, PLB can truly claim to be at the forefront of the UK drinks trade.
