Two new additions to DeBortoli's Willowglen range are the Willowglen Pinot Grigio 2011 and Willowglen Gewürztraminer Riesling 2011 (rrp £7.29).
It was a difficult vintage in 2011 in Riverina, Australia, with some of the heaviest rainfalls recorded in a growing season. However, according to DeBortoli, the longer ripening periods lead to an acid balance that is rarely seen. The Pinot Grigio is a feisty and lively little number, displaying citrus fruit flavours and more varietal expression than its usual neutral counterparts. There is also plenty going on in the off-dry flavoursome Gewürztraminer/Riesling, with its unctuous abundance of ripe peach and apricot flavours, as well as hints of spice.
