Piedmont producer Tosti has released a sparkling pink Pinot Grigio NV onto the UK market.

The company has been making a sparkling Pinot Grigio by the Charmat method since 2001 and claims this is the first ros version.

It is available under the Tosti label for the on-trade and under the Carino label for the off-trade. It will retail for 7.99.

Supertuscan whisky

The Elgin-based distillery Benromach has launched the Benromach Sassicaia Wood Finish. The single malt is matured in casks from Tuscan winery Sassicaia for 27 months before being bottled at 45% abv. There are fewer than 1,000 bottles for sale in the UK.

The 70cl bottle is packaged in a purple tin, and has an RRP of 26.99-28.99.

A wine for Saturday night

A new brand from Lodi, California, is launched this month. Saturday Red is Syrah/Zinfandel blend and will retail at 5.99.

It is distributed by World Wine Agencies (based in Bath) and can be bought on offer at Co-op for 2.99 from 5 to 25 March.

High hopes for Montana Brut

The new 2006 Montana Brut is being introduced to the burgeoning sparkling wine sector by Pernod Ricard.

Adrian Atkinson, wine development manager at Pernod Ricard, said: 'The new Montana Brut is different from the Montana Lindauer Brut and Lindauer Special Select by its more Blanc de Blancs style, being 80% Chardonnay, versus Lindauer which is predominantly Pinot Noir. We believe the two brands will complement each other.'

It will be available in Tesco from mid-March, Thresher from mid-April and Majestic from May, priced at 8.99.
