Waitrose and Majestic Wine will be the first UK retailers to stock Sonoma-Cutrer Sonoma Coast Chardonnay, which is said to be one of the most popular Chardonnays in the USA.

The 2006 Sonoma-Cutrer Sonoma Coast Chardonnay is the inaugural offering of this wine in the UK and the wine is said to "emulate the Burgundian ability to make white wines that combine intensity with leanness and elegance".

It is said to be reminiscent of a young Meursault and can be drunk now or enjoyed over the next few years if cellared well.

For many years Sonoma-Cutrer was only available in the USA, where it has achieved a cult following of sommeliers, restaurants and drinkers. It has been selected in an annual poll of the top US restaurants as America's favourite Chardonnay for 17 of the past 19 years.

Sonoma-Cutrer Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 2006 will be s available from Majestic, Waitrose and Ocado from August, priced 14.99.
