ARROGANT FROG GOES GREEN
This popular range of wines epitomizes Jean Claude's ability to combine old world tradition with new world attitude. The result is a range of modern, fruit-driven wines which are French in nature and offer the consumer excellent quality at affordable prices. The eye-catching packaging is designed to appeal to the British sense of humour as the self-deprecating Jean Claude plays on the well-known image of the Arrogant Frog. All the wines are bottled under screwcap to ensure that the quality and freshness is preserved.
New wines in the Arrogant Frog range include the 2006 Organic Ribet Red Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot which won the award for Best Organic Wine in the 2007 Tesco Drinks Awards, resulting in a brand new listing. It boasts a quirky 'green' label featuring the Arrogant Frog in suitably natural clothing, catching butterflies, reflecting the tongue-in-cheek attitude from winemaker and owner, Jean Claude Mas. The 2007 vintage of this wine has just been released and will also be available for tasting.
Also on show will be the Ribet Pink Shiraz Rosé 2007, Lily Pad Pinot Noir 2007, Lily Pad Shiraz 2007, Sauvignon Blanc 2007, Chardonnay/Viognier 2007 and Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot 2007. The Arrogant Frog wines have recently won a number of top awards (Decanter, IWSC and Top 100 Vins de Pays).
DOMAINE LES TANNES (made from 100% organically grown grapes) Continuing with the organic theme, the new vintages of Les Tannes Chardonnay 2007 and Les Tannes Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot 2006 under the new 'Sud de France' banner, will be available for tasting. These Ecocert certified wines prove that organic grapes can produce excellent, expressive wines, which are bursting with fruit. Jean Claude Mas bought the 40 hectare vineyard, 'Les Tannes' in 2006. The vineyard has been organically farmed for the past six years and enjoys a prime location between the Hérault Valley and the Mediterranean coast, near Montagnac. The grapes are all organically grown.
"For me, organic wine is a philosophy and eventually I aim to convert all my own vineyards into organic agriculture", says Jean Claude. "Organic wine production involves farming the land the way our ancestors used to, at a time when being environmentally friendly came naturally, before the introduction of chemicals and pesticides in the 1960s.”
Also on show will be Jean Claude's flagship organic blend, Mas des Tannes Grenache/Cabernet Sauvignon/Mourvèdre 2006, Vin de Pays des Côteaux de Bessilles.
LES TANNES TRADITION Jean Claude has also launched a new range of wines from vineyards which have been managed under the sustainable viticulture method (viticulture raisonée) which involves a more restrained use of chemicals based on long term observation of vineyards and close assessment of weather seasons of each vintage. This range includes a Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
MAS DES MAS, AOC Côteaux du Languedoc (Villages collection) Jean Claude has recently released a limited release collection of three single vineyard wines from the top terroirs of three lesser known cru appellations of Languedoc, designed to show the region's diversity and to symbolize the synergy between New World attitude and Old World philosophy. The name, Mas des Mas, is a play on Jean Claude's surname and its southern French meaning of 'estate'.
Mas des Mas AOC Pézenas 2006 (Mourvèdre/Grenache/Syrah/Carignan) Mas des Mas AOC Terrasses du Larzac 2006 (Syrah/Grenache/Mourvèdre/Carignan) Mas des Mas AOC Grès de Montpellier 2006 (Mourvèdre/Syrah/Grenache)
DOMAINE ASTRUC, Limoux (dA) Jean Claude Mas produces this elegant range of wines from the cooler Limoux region, home to Domaine Astruc (whence the name dA). The 2007 dA Pinot Noir Reserve and dA Sparkling NV, AOC Crémant de Limoux will be shown.
LA FORGE ESTATE The La Forge wines are made from grapes grown mainly at Domaine La Forge, located to the east of Carcassonne but grapes are also gathered from other vineyards located in Limoux and Pézenas. The 2006 Marsanne will be on the stand, as well as the 2007 Pinot Noir (from the cooler Limoux region), 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon (from vines grown in the Minervois AOC geographical limits), 2006 Merlot, 2006 Syrah and 2007 Chardonnay.
CLAUDE VAL The Claude Val wines are made from selected grapes in the best growing regions in the Languedoc : Limoux, Carcassonne and Pézenas. These are elegant, simple, fruit-driven wines. The 2007 vintages of Claude Val Blanc, Rouge and Rosé wines, all bottled with screwcap closures, will be available to taste.
HIDDEN HILL Hidden Hill is a range of modern Vins de Pays d'Oc wines, resulting from the close partnership between Jean Claude Mas and Paul Stratford. The wines are innovative in style and presentation and epitomize the 'new old world'. All bottles are screwcapped and the labels are eye-catching and sophisticated. The range includes a Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay/Viognier, Merlot and Syrah/Viognier.
CHATEAU PAUL MAS, Clos des Mures, Côteaux du Languedoc The 2006 vintage of the winery's flagship wine, a Syrah/Grenache blend, will also be available to taste.
