United Wineries launches premium venture

Read more about

Leading International wine group United Wineries has unveiled its new UK venture, Bacchanalia The Wine & Art Society.

Bacchanalia will focus on the distribution of premium wines to the on-trade, independent, and wholesale channels, and will be officially launched at the 2008 London International Wine Fair in May.

The company, which will focus solely on boutique ultra-premium and estate wines with limited production, will distribute a range of brands from leading Spanish Denominación de Origen's including Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Arribes del Duero, Rueda, Cava and Penedès. In addition to building distribution in the independent, wholesale and on-trade channels, Bacchanalia will also be targeting corporate business during 2008.

Commenting on the development, Bacchanalia managing director Alex Francis said: “The launch of Bacchanalia will allow us to actively target the on-trade, independent and wholesale channels. Spain has long focused on the off-trade, but we foresee great opportunities for growth, in both volume and value terms, across these three sectors”

The Bacchanalia portfolio will feature a selection of exclusive premium wines from the Marques de la Concordia Family of Wines, including the eponymous new-wave Rioja brand Marques de la Concordia. Combining the best of Old World terrior and New World style, the Marques de la Concordia range is produced at the Hacienda de Susar vineyard in Rioja Baja – the only vineyard in the region to have been granted experimental status to produce international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah

In addition, Bacchanalia will be distributing the award-winning brand, Durius, whose premium wines are produced in Spain's newest D.O., Arribes del Duero. The portfolio will also feature wines from Rueda label Vega de la Reina, which was acquired by the Marques de la Concordia Family of Wines in 2007.

Rounding out the Bacchanalia portfolio are Penedès brands Mas de Monistrol and Marques de Monistrol, and leading Rioja brand Lagunilla, which was founded in 1877.
