Herefordshire's Chase Distillery has released its first ready to drink cocktail - the Marmalade Mule.

The cocktail is a mixture of Chase's marmalade vodka with ginger beer, fresh lime juice and orange bitters and is served in a can.

Chase is the only English potato based vodka on the market, and the family-run estate produces the spirit from "field to bottle". It also makes a range of premium gins and liqueurs.

The family wanted to create an English twist on the typically Russian cocktail.

Chase Marmalade Vodka is distilled with orange marmalade, made on the family farm in Hereford from Seville oranges imported during the few weeks that they are in season. It is then further distilled in the world's tallest rectification column where the vapours pass through orange peel from both Seville and Valencia oranges.

Chase Vodka founder William Chase has long been outspoken about the importance of boutique distilleries. In 2012 he caused controversy after accusing large and smaller distilleries of passing off mass-produced spirits as "homemade" and hiring PR firms to come up with "twee" stories so they could pretend to be something they're not.

Chase founded Tyrrells English Crisps in 2002 and sold three-quarters of it to Langholm Capital in 2008. His idea for producing vodka came about after seeing all the leftover potatoes that weren't good enough for his crisps. In 2004, he found a small distillery in the US making potato vodka, and decided he could do the same. The firm's first vodka was released in 2008.

After launching at Chase Distillery's Rock The Farm festival last weekend, the Marmalade Mule is currently available to buy directly from www.WilliamsChase.co.uk.
