There's still time for independent merchants to enter the Wines from Rioja Retailer of the Year Competition.
Run in association with the Spanish Ministry of the Environment, Rural & Marine Affairs, the winning independent must show a significant uplift in sales as a result of the promotion, as well as innovation and creativity in display and tasting events.
The winner will be awarded the official title of Wines from Rioja Retailer of the Year and receive £1,000 (the runner-up will receive £500) towards listings of Rioja wines. Winners will be given a window sticker and logo to put on their website, and an in-store Rioja training session for their staff. The promotion will run throughout October, finishing no later than October 31.
The pre-requisite to signing up is that during the promotion, retailers must stock a range of Rioja wines from at least five different producers – all of which must be included in the promotion – with at least one white Rioja.
Feedback, including sales data and photographic back-ups, must be provided to be eligible for a chance of winning Wines from Rioja Retailer of the Year.
A total of 28 retailers have so far signed up to the promotion. They are the Vineyard, Dorking; Scatchards, Liverpool; the Longship, Orkney; the Wine Cellar; the Oxford Wine Company; Evuna; Corks Out; Grape & Grain; Nickolls & Perks; Premier Wines; Barrica; Hattersley Wines; Cambridge Wines; the Wine Store; Fine Wines Direct; SH Jones & Co; Wine Raks; Ultracomida; the Solent Cellar; Adnams; the Shenfield Wine Co; Ye Olde Bottoms Up; Partridges; Market Square; Christopher Piper Wines; Peckham; Vineking; and Last Try Wines.
