Vergelegen launches vintage “V”

Premium South African winery, Vergelegen has launched the 2004 vintage of "V" - its flagship wine - onto the UK market. The wine, which is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (90%), Merlot (7%) and Cabernet Franc (3%), has an RRP of £56 and is targeted at both the high end retailers and on-trade. The 2004 is the third vintage of "V" to be released in the UK.

The grapes for Vergelegen "V" are carefully selected from Vergelegen's Stonepipe, Rondekop and Kopland vineyards. These vineyards are all North and North-West facing with granitic, Hutton and Clovelly soils. The site is sheltered from the sea breezes of False Bay, and enjoys a slightly warmer maritime climate, perfect for red grape maturation.

The young wine undergoes post fermentation maceration of 28 days, followed by malo-lactic fermentation in new French oak. Post malo-lactic fermentation, the wine is racked into 100% new French oak. The wine is matured in oak for nearly 24 months, followed by 18 months in bottle before release.
