Cambridge Wine Merchants in sustainability focus
Harpers’ Best Top Merchant of the Year, Cambridge Wine Merchants, is celebrating its local Independent Retailer Month with a series of sustainability-themed events.
The initiative is organised by Cambridge BID and will see residents actively encouraged to explore the independent businesses the city has to offer.
Each week throughout July Cambridge Wine Merchants will focus on a different winery that has pioneered new techniques in sustainable winemaking, including Esporão in Portugal, Famille Perrin in France, and Torres wineries in Spain, Chile and the US.
Activity will include a wine festival, tastings, masterclasses and promotions.
Hal Wilson, managing director of Cambridge Wine Merchants, said: “Promoting sustainable wineries is vital to the future of the wine industry, and promoting independent retailers in Cambridge is vital to the sustainability of the city centre. We all want to maintain the unique character of the place.”
The month’s activities will culminate with an Organic & Biodynamic Wine Fair, held on July 27 at Cambridge Wine Merchant’s Cherry Hinton Road branch. The fair runs from 12 noon-8pm and entry is £5.
