Brewdog takes beer shops to Scotland and plans new bar concepts

Scottish craft beer producer Brewdog is working on a number of new concepts to expand its on- and off-trade retailing footprint.

They include a small site bar concept selling only Brewdog beers called Dogtap, a name taken from the brewery tap at its plant in Ellon, Aberdeenshire.

Shuffledog will be a draught only version of its Brewdog bars equipped with shuffleboard tables, vintage arcade games and pinball machines. The first is scheduled to open in Leeds in July and it will roll out this year.

Doghouse will open in Glasgow's Merchant City district and will comprise a restaurant, Brewdog bar and Bottledog beer shop.

Bottle Dog - the first of which opened in London's King's Cross last year - will have its first stores outside the UK capital with branches due to open in Edinburgh and Glasgow in the coming weeks.

The company is also moving into the world of coffee shops with The Newington Fix, also in Edinburgh. It will serve coffee by day and craft beer in the evenings.

Brewdog is opening a second bar in its home city of Aberdeen, which it said would be it flagship site.

It is also establishing the Granite City Craft Distillery at its Ellon brewery, using custom-built pot and gin stills to make small batch spirits using BrewDog beers as a base.

In brewing, a sour beer programme is being set up and Brewdog is working on a collaborative brew with another on-trend craft brewer, London's Beavertown.

The plans were revealed by co-founders Martin Dickie and James Watt at an AGM for 6,000 investors in its Equity For Punks scheme.
