Bellwether to tap ‘less but better’ trend

Bellwether Wines is hoping to tap the trend for drinking ‘less but better’ with a focus wines sitting in the ‘mid-price’ bracket in its 2017/18 portfolio.

The business, the wine division of regional brewer Oakham Ales, has included 13 bottles ithat sits in the increasingly popular price bracket, comprising four Italian, duos from South Africa and Spain, with single editions from Australia, Argentina, Chile and France respectively.

In addition, Bellwether has secured the distribution rights to Bernard Massard’s sparkling 'Cuvee de L'Ecusson Brut & Rose' wines making it one of only two companies in England to distribute the sparkling wines from Luxembourg.

On the back of “extensive research”, Bellwether has also added wines from Gustave Lorentz to the forthcoming year's portfolio. 

The 2017/18 collection was “remarkable” in terms of quality, presentation and taste, said commercial director Warren Ball, adding the Peterborough-based business was constantly seeking “new and exciting” wines to offer alongside its core range.

"At Oakham Ales and Bellwether Wines, we pride ourselves on quality and service."

Other new additions to the portfolio include entries from Chile, Argentina, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
