Gerard Basset memoirs fully funded within days

The crowdfunding initiative to back the publication of the memoirs of Gerard Basset MS, MW, OBE seeks to set up a scholarship in his name as it reaches £14,000 target within days of launching.

With pledges for the initiative having poured in across the last few days, it was today announced that the book is now more than 100% funded.

The initiative however is still open to pledges, with Gerard’s widow Nina and son Romané hoping to devote any surplus to establish a scholarship or award in Gerard’s name if there is enough.

Both Nina and Romané are said to be “quite amazed” by the sheer quantity and quality of all the tributes that have been flowing in from all over the world.

Gerard lost his battle with cancer and passed away on 17 January.

As a man that needed little by way of introduction, either in the UK or global world of wine, he was a great inspiration and positive force for so many in the trade today.
