Drinks supplier Jascots Wine Merchants has been appointed the principal wine supplier for the Barbican. This followed a City of London Corporation tender process.
The “six-figure, four-year agreement” will see the wholesaler supply wines across the venue’s eight bars, two cinemas and array of mobile bars, detailed Jascots.
According to the merchant, it is its “largest hospitality contract win for a single site in recent years”.
The Barbican’s head of commercial development Adrian Morgan explained that its decision to appoint Jascots as its principal wine partner was motivated by what it sees as “a genuine commitment to sustainability”.
Additionally, Morgan said that Jascots’ “diverse, high-quality portfolio” will enable the arts venue “to serve the broad and varied audiences who come through our doors”.
Grace Campling (pictured), senior business development manager at Jascots, added: “As a London architectural hallmark and community cornerstone, the Barbican provides an inclusive platform for connecting our authentic and talented winemakers with a diverse audience of wine lovers, arts patrons and visitors from around the world.”
Featuring on the new Barbican wine listing will be South African producer Spier Wine Farm, a leader in sustainable and regenerative viticulture; organic and fair-trade Argentinian producer Viña Artesano; and West Sussex's Bolney Wine Estate.
The emphasis on a sustainable wine list forms a part of the City of London's Climate Action Strategy which seeks to achieve net-zero carbon emissions from its own operations (including the Barbican) by 2027. A longer-term vision is in place to achieve net-zero emissions across its entire supply chain by 2040.
