Liberty strengthens southern Italian offer

Published:  05 October, 2026

Liberty Wines has boosted its southern Italian portfolio with the addition of Quintodecimo and Bella-Colonna estates.

Long known as champion of quality Italian producers, the importer’s new additions join the likes of Mandrarossa, Donnafugata and Mecori, tapping into the current trend towards wines from beyond the big-name regions of Barolo, Brunello and Chianti Classico.

Quintodecimo is a project from Professor Luigi Moio, a leading academic in the field of oenoloy and aromatics, who with his wife Laura (both pictured) bought an estate in Mirabella Eclano in 2001, in the heart of Taurasi, now with 40ha being nurtured on clay and volcanic soils.

The organically farmed estate produces classic southern grapes Aglianico, Greco, Falanghina and Fiano, aiming for elegance and texture to elevate these varieties to new heights.

Bella-Colonna, meanwhile, is the handywork of Marco de Grazia, best known for his Tenuta delle Terre Nere estate on Etna, which he mostly sold in 2025. However, he retained some prime parcels around the Contrada Calderara Sottana on the volcano’s northern slopes, including the eponymous Bella Colonna plot.

White Carricante and red Nerello Mascalese, from elevations between 600 and 900 metres, deliver a selection of wines that reflect their higher altitude, volcanic soil origins.

Nicholas Moschi, director of buying at Liberty, said: “For nearly 30 years, we have championed the quality, diversity and regionality of Italian wine and were honoured to be named Italy Specialist of the Year for a record 23rd time at the 2026 IWC Industry Awards last month.

“We are thrilled to be working with Professor Luigi Moio and Marco de Grazia, both of whom share our passion for highly distinctive wines from native varieties with an authentic sense of place. Quintodecimo and Bella-Colonna… will bring real excitement to our customers' wine lists.”
