Torres has launched its latest new range of wines - Nerola, which is being marketed as a contemporary Mediterranean product'. We wanted to work with Spanish varieties to produce a Mediterranean wine that is distinct from other Torres wines,' said winemaker Mireia Torres. The Nerola range, which comprises a red (Syrah/Monastrell) and white (Xarel-lo/Garnacha Blanca), is the first wine produced by Mireia, one of the new generation of the family, and is a departure from tradition for the company. This is the first Torres wine made from a marketing point of view,' explained Miguel Torres, who was on hand to oversee the launch of his daughter's venture. The event, timed to coincide with Barcelona's 150th anniversary celebrations of the architect Antonio Gaud, was held at Casa Batll, one of the city's most distinctive Gaud buildings. It was attended by three generations of the Torres dynasty. Nerola has a limited production of 10,000 cases of the 2000 vintage and will be distributed exclusively to the on-trade by John E Fells (tel: 01442 870 900).
