Jancis Robinson scoops award for services to Portuguese wine
Jancis Robinson MW has picked up an award for her services to Portuguese wine from the ambassador to the UK.
Robinson was awarded the Commendador do Ordem do Mérito Empresarial – Classe do Mérito Agricola - at an ambassador’s reception at his London residence on Wednesday night.
The ambassador, Dr Joao da Vallera, commended Robinson for championing Portuguese wines throughout her career.
Robinson said: “All my wine writing life I have felt very fond of Portuguese wines and have championed them. I think it’s high time we got rid of any idea that Portuguese wine has to be a niche product or an inexpensive product, the evidence is there that Portugal is producing some wonderful wines.”
Wines of Portugal’s marketing director, Nuno Vale, said: “Jancis fully deserves this honour She is a staunch advocate of our country and over the years has done much to educate and enthuse people about our wines. I would like to pass on our sincere thanks for what she has achieved.”
