Santa Rita Estates launches premium wine brand
Chilean conglomerate Santa Rita Estates unveiled new premium wine brand Bougainville last month at Vinexpo in Bordeaux, France.
The premium brand will launch in the UK in autumn with a suggested retail price of £49.99 and will be distributed by Berkmann Wine Cellars.
Bourgainville, named after the desert flower bougainvillea, also pays tribute to Santa Rita. Santa Rita is the name of the plant in Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay and Uruguay.
The grapes are harvested from only 2ha in the Alto Jahuel area of the Maipo Valley, which is found in the foothills of the Andes, about 30km south of Sanitago, and aged in new French oak for 19 months.
“Being at 500m elevation in the Alto Jahuel region, there are better ripening conditions and this ensures we produce the best quality of wine,” said Andrés Ilabaca, head winemaker for the brand.
Santa Rita Estates, also known as the Claro Wine Group, has a number of labels already available on the UK market including, the 120 brand, named after 120 soldiers who took refuge in Santa Rita’s cellars during Chile’s war for independence, by far the most successful range in volume and value; as well as, Carmen, Nativa, Terra Andina and Doña Paula.
Santa Rita Estates has several different distributors for its many brands in the UK including Berkmann Wine Cellars, HallgartenDruitt and Liberty Wines.
