Modal Wines launches collaborative Nuvo Nivo range

Published:  01 October, 2026

Importer Modal Wines has unveiled its new Nuvo Nivo range, a collaboration built on long-term grower and winemaker relationships.

The ethos of the new project is to approach “how to make genuinely well-farmed, characterful wines accessible enough for restaurants to pour and people to drink regularly”, said Modal.

The majority of the range will be priced at £20 and below with some limited releases set to be sold at £25.

Founder of Modal Wines Nicolas Rizzi expanded on the origins of the new range.

“Nuvo Nivo really came out of conversations with our growers,” he said. “Over the years we’d repeatedly come across great fruit, wine or ideas that for one reason or another didn’t have an obvious home.

“At the same time, we were seeing how difficult it was becoming for restaurants and shops to find genuinely exciting, well-farmed wines at accessible prices. We realised that, rather than simply looking elsewhere for wines to fill those gaps, we could work with growers we already trusted to create something together.”

The wines included in Nuvo Nivo span producers from South Africa to Spain, with further releases in the pipeline from New Zealand and Germany.

Highlights include a biodynamic Côtes du Rhône 2025 from Domaine Elodie Jaume; a 100% Merlot from Paarl, Inyanga 2025; and In Limbo 2023, an organically farmed blend of Pinot Noir and Pinot Menuier.

An eau de vie features too – Spirit Level – created alongside South London distillery Vintersol. The project came about following a quality control issue with 900 bottles of Sicilian orange wine. Instead of discarding the wine Modal worked with the distiller to transform the whole batch into 240 bottles of spirit.

Modal Wines and Indigo Wine are hosting a collaborative Autumn tasting on 19 October at Shoreditch, London’s Noisy Oyster.
