The Sommelier Wine Awards (SWA) has opened to entries for its 2027 round of judging.
As the only wine competition in the UK focused entirely on the on-trade, the Awards represent a major opportunity for wines looking to raise their profile in hotels, pubs, bars and restaurants.
For 2027’s contest, the deadline for online entry will close on 17 February, with judging to take place in Spring.
Judges for the competition include Master Sommeliers and Masters of Wine – all of whom serve or buy wine in the on-trade. Wines are blind tasted by category, and evaluated on several criteria, including food-friendliness, versatility, typicity, personality and value for money.
Impartial judging ensures that results are relevant for on-trade buyers looking to enhance their wine lists.
For wines that enter, a variety of awards are available, including gold, silver and bronze medals – along with medals for categories such as by-the-glass, critics’ choice and pub & bar. Trophies are also given out for Wines of the Year.
Once judging is completed, results will be published in full on the dedicated SWA website – where they are available year-round – while higher medal winners will also feature in Harpers’ print and digital editions.
Harpers' report on the medal winners last year is avaliable here.
