Rum Experience University offers intensive education
A five-day intensive course on rum is being launched in Spain this September offering both trade professionals and drinks enthusiasts the chance to immerse themselves in all things to do with rum.
The Rum Experience University is the brainchild of global rum ambassador and UK RumFest founder Ian Burrell. It will be held at the Best Western Hotel in Salobrena, Andalucia close to the last remaining rum distillery in Europe, the Ron Montero Distillery.
The course will cover everything from the history of rum, rum making workshops, to how to create rum cocktails and become rum educator. Guest lecturers will include Richard Seale from Four Square Distillery in Barbados, cocktail historians and authors Anastasia Miller and Jared Brown, food scientist Bernard Lahouse, world Tiki authorative Jeff Berry, rum ambassador David Cordoba, as well as talks from Burrell himself.
It is designed for anyone looking to expand their core knowledge of rum, and is suitable for bartenders, rum brand ambassadors, journalists, industry specialists or keen rum enthusiasts.
Burrell said: There has never ever been an official course to become a spirits ambassador, let alone a rum ambassador. Too many brand ambassadors are thrown in the deep end and expected to promote categories and brands based on a PowerPoint presentation but without ever having visited the distillery or maturation warehouses where their products are made. We are seeking to empower our students with knowledge, and the tools to use that knowledge.”
The Full programme is available via the The Rum Experience University website.
Course costs start from £899 and those that complete the course will receive an industry recognised rum diploma.
