?Ardbeg to release limited edition 'Auriverdes' as its tribute to the Brazilian World Cup

Published:  28 March, 2014

Auriverdes is a 2014 limited edition Scotch whisky produced by Islay's Ardbeg Distillery that plays tribute to the World Cup taking place in Brazil this summer. It is being released to coincide with Ardbeg Day on May 31.

Dr Bill Lumsden, director of distillation and whisky creation at Ardbeg Distilleries said of his latest limited edition: "When creating Auriverdes I had a distinct flavour profile in mind that I wanted to achieve, so I specifically created the heart of the recipe to bring that to life. It is an expression of Ardbeg which has exceeded all my expectations."

The name Auriverdes is derived from the golden colour of the whisky, 'auri' and the green iconic bottle, 'verdes'. The name is also the nickname of the national football team of Brazil, hosts of the World Cup.

The release of Auriverdes will also coincide with the Islay Festival that takes place in the week leading up to Ardbeg Day on May 31 on the island of Islay, home of the Ardbeg distillery.

As a further part of the Ardbeg Day celebrations there will be an Ardbeg Peat Football tournament, which will happen in locations around the world and culminate in the Swamp Football World Cup to be held on June 28 and 29 in Argyll, Scotland.

Ardbeg Day will be celebrated at the distillery on May 31 and at participating Ardbeg Embassies around the world.
