The Sommelier Wine Awards (SWA) is currently open to entries for its 2027 edition, representing a major opportunity for wines looking to raise their profile in hotels, pubs, bars, and restaurants.
The Awards are the only wine competition in the UK focused entirely on the on-trade, with judges including Master Sommeliers and Masters of Wine – all of whom buy or serve wine in the sector.
This year, the deadline for entry closes on 17 February, with judging to take place in the Spring.
Wines that enter are blind tasted by category and evaluated on a series of criteria including food-friendliness, versatility, typicity, personality and value for money.
Such impartial judging enables results to be relevant for on-trade buyers looking to enhance their wine lists.
A variety of awards are available for competing wines, including Gold, Silver and Bronze medals – along with other medals for categories such as By-The-Glass, Critics’ Choice and Pub & Bar.
Trophies are also handed out for Wines of the Year.
Once judging is completed, the full list of results will be published on the dedicated SWA website – where they are available year-round – while higher medal winners also appear in Harpers’ print and digital editions.
Last year’s report on the medal winners is available here.
